Near the Gardeners and the Laninsters, the lords of the Vale gather in their rooms. The floor smells of roast goat almost immediately.

Prince Willem Lannister takes a small entourage and calls upon the Valemen, with the Prince asking to see Lord Grafton and Ser Mathis Arryn.

It feels somewhat amusing to everyone to have an entourage for a flight of stairs, but Ser Mathys greets them. He's a man of middle height and a wiry build, nearly bald. "Prince Willem," he greeted, "it has been a long time since I saw a Westerman. How fares your day, now?" His voice is slightly nasally, but he lets them in. "Lord Grafton will return presently." Willed sees the guards about, as well as a small man who is silent but seems to be memorizing everythin he sees.

"Willem indicated his guard should withdraw a short distance
"Ser Mathis. My father King Harys has asked me to inquire after the health and well being of your uncle King Artos. This matter of Princess Isabella must be of some grief to your uncle."

The knight nodded, "My king will thank his cousin for the concern, and he is quite well apart from his worry," he said. "Those dastardly women will be punished quite severely," he vowed. "It is good to know that the Lannisters, at least, still remember the bonds of royal togetherness." He offered the prince a large apple. "Fresh from my orchards," he said, "a summer harvest is a good sign. May get one more planting in before winter. It comes early in the Vale, after all. We aren't blessed with the fine weather here or at the Rock."

Willem bit into the apple witb his strong white teeth. He nodded his approval. "It's good."
"If you need the West's help in the matter of Princess Isabella you need only to ask. Of course we understand if you wish to handle this matter yourselves.
He looked around their surroundings. "So Ser Mathis, what do you make of this....situation?" He smiled grimly. "And I'm not talking about the architecture."

The knight smiled. "My family has much...more fond relations with House Hoare than many," he said. "I think that bringing Westeros together can only strengthen it. The deals with trade and marriage we make here will increase the clout we have overseas. Right now Braavos and Myr and Tyrosh can overcharge us, tax us with tariffs, because we are divided in bargaining. Here we can all make agreements and present the Free Cities with a more united front. More gold for one, more for all," he said. "No one wars when everyone is rich, after all." He put his fingertips together and bowed.
"Your offer of assistance is most appreciated. We, of course, have a fractured relationship with those women. If it is not too much trouble, your westerners may prove better able to find out where my king's daughter is."

"Greed is a bottomless pit in which one expends endless effort to reach their desire without ever getting satisfaction." said Willem. "Everyone may be rich but there will be at least one that always wants more."
A look of sympathy came over Willem's face at Mathis' request. "But of course. We shall do our best to help. Despite her wilfulness, you must be concerned about the safety of the Princess."

"Always," he said, even if it was one fewer person in his way to the throne. "But yes, greed is a pit, and every time we fill it in someone comes with a bigger shovel to reopen it." As he spoke, Lord Amos Grafton entered with Howling Horas, the former an overweight former warrior now given to ruling from a soft chair, the latter a madman in the lists, a madman in battle, and a madman in peace. His deeds are many and varied, but outside the Vale he is a cautionary tale about the use of substances that increase strength but may affect sanity. "Ah, Lord Amos, this is Prince Willem Lannister," Mathis said.
"My prince, Amos Grafton, of Gulltown." The lord said respectfully. "It looks apparent on first glance the West's future is in secure hands."

"Lord Amos." said Willem, extending a hand in greeting. "A pleasure."
He nodded a respectful greeting at Howling Horas Hunter, whose reputation proceeded him. He made a mental note to avoid him in the melee and hopefully in the lists as long as possible.
He glanced back at Lord Amos. "Ser Owen is not here? I had hoped to meet with him and maybe even have the chance to test my mettle against him in the lists."

"My son will be here when it begins," he said. "He heard rumors of some criminal activities in Gulltown and settled it before leaving. He wouldn't miss a chance to cross lances with Ser Garret of the Green Hand, or yourself," he assured him. "If you do not meet in the lists, he will see you in the yard, I promise. How is your father? I've not seen him in many years, but in our youth we had a run or two at each other."

"My father is well." he replied. He thought briefy of their recent bout in the yard at Casterly Rock.
"Ageing, but he should live for a few years yet. I will introduce you to some of my father's other sons, when the opportunity arises. Most of them accompanied me to Harrenhal."

"Excellent, excellent!" Amos said. "Many years I hope, though being king is not good for longevity. I think it is the stress, being in charge," he said. "The heart fails while the mind lives on." Ser Mathis chuckled.
"Long live the kings, then," he said. "I hope you will honor one of King Artos's daughters with a dance at the feast," he said. "The slanders against His Grace are troublesome to me, though I know the Lannisters are ever too honorable for such talk.."

"King Artos' daughters would honor me if they consented to a dance." replied Willem graciously. "I look forward to meeting them."
He glanced around at the group. "You may count on the Lannisters to not speak ill of the Vale. And indeed our friendship."

The two Valemen nodded. "Thank you, my prince," Amos said. "We look forward to furthering this relationship; it is time the Vale left its shell a bit."

"You and yours are welcome at Casterly Rock at any time." he replied. He paused for a moment. "I look forward to meeting the princesses, either here or at the feast."

Lord Amos nodded. "We do too," he agreed. "At the feast then."

The area is in mourning and a stolid guard looks at the prince a moment before alerting Lord Amos, the fat lord of Gulltown. The man waddles out. "My prince," he said in a dull tone. "Good morning to you."
