Background: Alyssa Hightower grew up the oldest daughter and second child of Lord Edric Hightower and his lady wife Clarissa Redwyne and as she was her father's first born girl she was used to getting everything she wanted with only a few exceptions, she was never allowed to train at the sword, her father had told her that no man wanted a woman who could best him in combat and her replies that men worthy of the name would either not be bested or not mind fell on deaf ears.
Having her dreams of being the worlds greatest swordsperson shattered, she decided she would be a Maester and sit in the conclave. Her father laughed softly and patted her head and presented her with a new doll telling her that women were not allowed to be Maesters.
She was a tenacious young girl and would not rest until her father agreed to give her a traditionally masculine education, focused on finance and governing and engineering rather than running a house, many Maesters visited her from the Citadel, some more willingly than others, and the Hightower's own Maester was fond of teaching her, as her older brother was... less than a studious sort.
That was the life she led for most of her early years. She was even given permission to go into the citadel library as she was such a staunch supporter of their work, convincing their father to lower their taxes so they could better aid the realm.
Her mother died when she was eight years old during childbirth which also took the life of her second brother, who managed to make it to three days before dying himself. The loss of his wife was something Lord Edric never got over, and he started to recluse himself, leaving his children to be the public face of Oldtown, and by children it was only Alyssa. She settled disputes and arguments, upheld the law, kept the peace, over saw the area, all while her brother went off warring. When he died a year before the current day, the smallfolk whispered that it was the gods in action allowing their lady to become the heir.
Being heir came with baggage though, and to cement their ties to their rulers Alyssa was given the dubious honour of being betrothed to the second son of King Grayson.
A month before the current date, Lord Edric breathed his last, finally moving on to join his wife, and finally allowing Alyssa, the de facto Voice of Oldtown to become it by rights.
