Background: Willem is the eldest son and heir of King Harys Lannister of Casterly Rock. The son of Harys and his first wife Myrcella Reyne of Castamere, Willem's birth was difficult costing his mother her life. King Harys' grief was profound, at first refusing to acknowledge his baby son and only grudgingly agreeing to name the babe after Alyssa's own late father Lord Willem Reyne of Castmere as per her last wishes. Nevertheless Willem was a well formed infant and he grew strong and sturdy and in excellent health. After his defeat at the Battle of Gods' Eye, his father King Harys re-married, his second wife Alyssa Marbrand. His father's new queen proved fecund, quickly becoming mother to a succession of mewly infants, (or it so it seemed to Willem). At the age of seven, Willem who by now strongly resembled his late mother, was sent to be fostered at his maternal uncle's residence of Castamere. Whether it was at his stepmother's behest, Willem did not know, but his uncle Lord Robert Reyne of Castamere was under no illusions that Queen Alyssa was seeking to advance her own sons in the King's affections, particularly her eldest Tybalt Lannister, Willem's eldest younger half-brother. Lord Robert raised his nephew as one of his own sons and Willem grew to almost think of him as his real father.
Willem spent the next seven years of his his life growing up with his Reyne cousins Daven, Roger and Jaymes, under the tutelage of his uncle Lord Robert finally returning to Casterly Rock in 191 when he reached his fourteenth year. His father Harys welcomed him as was expected of a father's treatment of his heir, but the welcome seemed strange and awkward, with the King often being hear to mutter how much Willem looked like his mother. It wasn't long before Willem was sent to squire for Lord Crakehall becomig involved in the border wars between the Reach and the West. At Coldiron Creek, Willem was knighted by Lord Crakehall for valour. Still only 16, the young Prince under the gudance of Lord Crakehall further developed his ability to fight in the field, commanding a number of incursions into the Reach.
Two years later in 195, Willem, now recognised as a promising young commander, decided that as the fighting between Reachman and Westerman was dying down, he needed futher adventure and glory. Flush with his father's generous stipend to his heir, Willem led a contingent of Westermen to fight in the Second Riverlands Rebellion against the growing power of House Hoare. During the rebellion he fought alongside Houses Bracken, Smallwood, Rosby, Vance and Piper developing important contacts in the Riverlands. Whilst they achieved some early successes, Erik Hoare defeated their coalition of forces at Acorn Hill. Many of Willem's contingent died in the battle and Willem taking a significant wound in his left thigh himself narrowly avoided capture. After his escape from the battlefield, Willem was briefly captured by a roving band of Ironborn, who while realising that he was a Westerland noble did not identify the unkempt fugutive as the heir to Casterly Rock. Taking him to the local holdfast, he was thrown in prison. While Willem lay wounded in a dungeon, someone took pity on the young prince. He received a loaf of bread in which were concealed several lengths of clean linen bandages with which he could dress his wound. This act of kindness by that unknown person perhaps saved Willem's life as any infection setting into the wound could have killed him. As he was being transported east, Willem took advantage of the lax guard his current anonymity afforded him and escaped, eventually making his way back to the Westerlands and safety. When he returned he found his cousin Jaymes had been also been captured and ransomed by King Harys. Father and son had a falling out over the matter of Willem's involvement in the Rebellion, a quarrel fanned by Queen Alyssa.
Thereafter, seemingly out of favor with his father the King and by his order restricted in funds, the Prince found he could make a good living out of winning tournaments, dangerous, often deadly, staged battles in which money and valuable prizes could be won by capturing and ransoming opponents, their horses and armour. With a small retinue he travelled widely both in the Westerlands, the Riverlands, the Reach and the Stormlands competing in tournaments, visiting lords many of whom, particulary in the Westerlands, were glad to host the future King of the Rock. He was often accompanied by his cousin Ser Jaymes Reyne. Despite his hevy paripsation in tournaments and his considerabe success he was meet Ser Garrett Costayne of the Order of the Green Hand in the lists, who he had heard was the finest jouster in all of Westeros.
By the age of 23, Willem had developed into a formidable commander and fighting man, at home on a horse and behind a lance and unusually possessed of an ability to wield two weapons at once - a situation that most fathers would relish. However King Harys still seemed distant from his eldest son - a situation Willem supposed was a lingering after effect of their quarrel, but also suspected was the influence of Queen Alyssa. Nevertheless when he did return to Casterly Rock periodically he was not turned away. Of late, conscious of his father's ageing and his status as his father's heir, Willem has returned to Casterly Rock more often. While many of the servants and small folk at Casterly Rock admire him, not all are pleased to see him. Nevertheless, while not totally sure of his father's family attitude towards him, Willem knows his late mother's family at Castamere are amongst his most loyal supporters and that he can rely on them totally.
Appearance: Willem stands a little over six foot tall. He's a lean and muscled young man. He has long blonde hair that falls down on his chest and back, crackling green eyes, a dark face with thick eyebrows and sharp facial features. He most often favors wearing the red and gold of his house. He always wear two sowrd, one at his hip as did most knights, but also one of a low slung scabbard on his back that he was able to draw swiftly and cleanly in case of trouble.
