Name: King Theon IV Hoare
Age: 25
Kingdom: Kingdom of the Rivers and Isles
Position: King of Isles and Rivers and Mountain and Vale (Theon hates the title)
Backstory: Prince Theon Hoare was born half an hour after his twin Erik. Inevitably, this would cause concern among the Iron Lords who feared a civil war once the twins came to maturity. However, when their father was slain by Lannister knights during battle, old King Harkins decided that the younger brother would be sent to the Citadel, where he would eventually renounce his house and gain much knowledge that might benefit his twin's rule.
When Theon was 20, he returned to Harrenhal as a maester to the same household he grew up with. It is said he and his twin were inseparable as children, but as distinct as the sea and the mountains in manhood. Erik was brash, arrogant, and easily prone to violence. Theon was thoughtful, polite, and concerned with stability. Erik's supporters said that his attitudes were typical of the old Ironmen and would signal a revival of the conquests that had stalled under his forefathers. His opponents argued that it was inappropriate behavior for a king, and would only bring ruin to the kingdom. The King, their grandfather, simply pointed out that he had plenty of sons where Erik came from and the lords should shut their mouths about this succession business.
And then one day, Prince Erik Hoare contracted the Dornish pox. It was a slow and painful illness, lasting nearly two years. When the King also fell ill and his first son Euron died in his prime, the lords began to rally around the notion of crowning one of the King's other sons or grandsons, rather than risk the crown falling upon the brow of a diseased madman who might survive years in his present state and infect House Hoare's legacy in the process.
It was the well-spoken Theon who gathered the entire assembly of lords in his personal chamber at Harrenhal, a room that was larger than some courtyards. It was expected that as maester to the royal household, he would be the one to inform them of the conditions of his grandfather and twin. Many had come simply to offer their sympathies for the loss of his popular father. Instead, Theon tore his maester's chain apart with his bare hands and declared that he was Prince Theon Hoare, heir to his grandfather, father, and brother. If any of them failed to renew their vows immediately, he would have them summarily tossed out the window and have their own sons executed before word of their fathers' deaths even reached home.
Thus the crisis was averted in surprising fashion. In the end, it was Erik who died shortly after and the King who survived his grandchild. Now Theon stands as heir apparent to the throne.
Personality:
Theon is soft-spoken, favoring personal conversations to the bluster of the feast. He collects ancient books and foreign trinkets that mean little or nothing to his supporters. He has taken no wives and a single mistress from Oldtown. It is said he intends to wed a great lady from another kingdom and truly seal a powerful alliance, and does not want to sully his chances by fathering legitimate children.
PART II: After his grandfather was blown to chunky bits by a rebel, Theon ascended to the throne while simultaneously claiming Princess Miriam Arryn as his queen. Having secured strong alliances with the North and House Targaryen, Theon has very quickly established himself as one of the most savvy and ruthless monarchs in Westeros.
He has also established himself as a fantastically lousy warrior, despite his unquestioned skill as a strategist. This has made him somewhat unpopular with his Ironborn subjects, who typically prefer a leader who can lead from the front and not the back.
