"We maintain our privacy," she said. "And this is far too public to discuss such things. Your little manservant there will go right to the king to spill his beans, if you didn't first." Damon spat on the ground.
"Next time you insult me, woman, I will be the one in the yard," he finally growled.

Melissa laid a hand on her companion's arm. She was desperate to spend some private time with the Steel Mermaids.
"Please. Ser Damon, I am sure no insult is intended. I know you mean only to protect me, but I know I am quite safe with these women, and I swear to you, I will not run off with them. If you will only wait here for me, I will be happy to pay for as many drinks as you require while you wait. We shan't be too long, I swear it."

"I cannot, princess," he said, "You know this. And I surely can hardly be seen drunk while on duty." Eleyna seems to recognize something, and she and her girls rise.
"We must be gone," she said, "the Vale's hunters are here." Melissa sees a half dozen armed men, with swords and crossbows and spears and shields, all approaching. "We're by the new sept, if you ever find some freedom," she said.

"I'll find you soon enough," Melissa decided. She stood. "Come, Ser Damon. We had best be off back to Harrenhal."

They leave the tavern as the men block them from exiting. "Who are you!" One demands. "Those women are wanted by King Artos Arron for crimes against the Crown!"

Melissa stood tall and adopted her haughtiest expression.
"I am Melissa Gardener, Princess of the Reach, and I will pass. Whatever those women have done, or not done, it is no concern of mine. Let me pass, else my father will hear of your insolence."

One man steps forward before another clouts him on the head. "Let her pass, idiot. This isn't Gulltown." The man sheepishly moved aside as Ser Damon gave them all the death stare. "All apologies, princess. Our king is quite desperate to retrieve his beloved daughter."

"I quite understand, but it is not for House Gardener to intervene. Although..." A mischievous thought occurred to her and she added "I have a brother and a cousin serving in the Order of the Green Hand. Perhaps you ought seek out the Order. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Green Hand might be able to assist. Unofficially, of course."
Even as she spoke, though, she thought how wonderful it would be if she were the one to discover the princess' whereabouts. Nobody would anticipate that. She stepped past the men.
"May the Crone light your way and bring you good fortune on your quest. Farewell."
Smiling, she swept past the men.
