Lord Reynard Serrett, Lord Daeron Blacktyde, and 3 more like this
Post by King Theon IV Hoare on Aug 5, 2017 3:44:26 GMT
Events as explained by Theon to random people.
Joust(Lance/Horsemanship)
"For those who have never seen this in practice, imagine two plated men on horses. They're carrying these great wooden lances, and their paths are separated by this barrier they cannot cross. The men then charge along their paths and try to ram their opponent as hard as possible and knock them off their horses onto their asses. Now, Archmaester Tolliver wrote much on the homoerotic implications of this particular Andal tradition, but for the next few weeks, no one may joke about the likely sodomy of our guests. Or you'll end up with a personal lesson in the subject in one of the less pretty towers..."
Melee(Various Combat Skills)
"Everyone shows up with their own weapons to the platform by the lake. You fall in the water, you lose. Killing is forbidden for this upcoming tourney, but the prize money has been greatly improved on account of the royal guests competing. No, the King will not punish any subject who bruises a foreigner, but he does expect them to leave Harrenhal with their limbs intact this time."
Archery(Bows)
"It is presently illegal to attempt to win the archery contest by shooting another contestant. Yes, that comes from the King himself. Yes, even pointing the shaft at the guests is punishable by torture. Oh, you meant that shaft. I doubt they'll notice, Ned, but I don't believe that's against any particular edict."
Swimming(Swimming)
"I am still in need of young women for the swimming contest next week. Jon, you can donate your daughters to His Grace's endeavours for world harmony and then feed your family for a year, or I can leave you in this cell to wait for your debtor's trial. Wise choice. You will be let out of this cell the moment we put them on the boat. I will have some wine and cheese delivered on the way out. Good evening, Jon."
Musical Chairs(Agility/Strength)
"I can't swear to have seen it played in Oldtown, but who doesn't love musical chairs?"
Limbo(Agility)
"Yes, leather armor is still mandatory for Limbo. Yes, I suppose some of them may want wish to dress in heavier armor, but if it feels like cheating, it's because you've never seen a man try to lean backwards while while wearing several pounds of metal."
