Theon invites both Giovanni of Braavos and Edmund to a private luncheon.

The Iron Bank's representative arrives, dressed in strange clothing probably not even fashionable in Braavos, all muted browns and yellows, like a particularly distracted farm septon. "King Theon," he politely said, "the Iron Bank passes its congratulations to you on your accession to the throne." The Iron Bank doesn't do condolences.

Theon didn't feel cause to smile very much. Indeed, it was a light lunch, consisting of fruits and cheeses and lean meats. "Thank you. I hope your journey here was uneventful."

Edmund arrived with the food. "Your Grace," he greeted Theon, having decided that it would be best to avoid mentioning their friendship in the visitor's presence. It was best that the Braavosi see him as simply a courtier and adviser. "Master Giovanni, welcome."

"Uneventful save for the gorgeous vistas," he confirmed, "truly Westeros has a ruggedness fading from western Essos." He took some fruit without complaint. "And I am sorry, who are you, my friend?" He asked Edmund.

"Edmund Paege, courtier and adviser to King Theon." Edmund bowed to the visitor and seated himself.

The banker nodded and then turned back to the king. "Excellent," he said, "the Iron Bank was quite excited about your letter," he told Theon, "New partnerships are something we strive for, our purpose for being, as it were."

Theon raised a hand. "Before we begin in earnest, I wish to clarify a critical point. I am not seeking a loan from your institution. Rather, I wish to invest in it directly as a client. I understand that it is typically the reverse when our continents do business, so I do not wish to be vague on my intentions or resources. I do not require your coin, but rather your services." He paused. "Is the Iron Bank amenable to such a relationship?"

"Fifty-seven percent of our dealings with kings and other realm wide rulers are of a similar variety," he assured him. "For all the mystery of how we got so much gold, an ability to turn a profit on an investment regardless of prevailing climes is the major one. Our shareholders give us vast amounts of gold in expectation of slightly less vast amounts of sustainable interest. Otherwise we'd have no ability to pursue our...rather famous pursuit of moneys loaned," he added.

"Excellent." Theon took a nearby pen and scribbled a certain number on a sheet of paper, before sliding it to Giovanni. "That is the sum I am currently willing to deposit on the first transfer. While the acquired interest is certainly appealing, I have also heard it said that the Iron Bank offers more immediate benefits to its clients. I require a competent... professional for a crucial role I currently lack in my cabinet. If you might introduce such a figure to me... Well, I won't say my gratitude would be immeasurable. When clearly it is."

The banker looked down and nodded. "We have been known to arrange meetings between the powerful and those who can best assist them," he allowed. "We shall arrange for some interested parties to pay you a visit as soon as possible."

Theon gave the banker a careful look. "And this... professional's loyalty would be to...?"

"Presumably, whoever is paying him or her," the man replied evenly. "We arrange meetings, we have our own force of information gatherers," he said. "If you're looking for loyalty alone you'd look to your kingdom, not Essos, but ou want professionalism and competence in matters that are not always seen in high regard here."

Theon considered the answer before nodding his acceptance. "Now, in light of my rapidly expanding prospects and the nature of my people's primary nature of income..."
He began speaking in numbers, and providing mathematical reasoning for why he should receive a superior interest rate.

Opposed: 130 (moderate success)
Giovanni allows him to speak on for a while, and then nods. "Six percent," he said agreeably. "The nature of your kingdom's incomes can be mutable, I understand, quite prone to variance, but the deposit is large enough to warrant a substantial security." The banker took some notes on a parchment before him. "I shall have it drafted up for your approval and signature," he promised.

"Will you require any martial support in transferring the coin?"

Giovanni shook his head. "No one is insane enough to rob the Iron Bank," he said, "and if they did, well....the response would be swift." He looks at the figures. "One galleon should do, if it is all in bars and coins," he said.
