Backstory:
At a young age, the son of Lord Flement Serrett and Lady Tya Lannister hardly ever stayed home in Silverhill. His father worked as Lord Treasurer to the Lannisters and his mother would rather stay with her family than in a lonely empty castle while her husband was away on duty. Raised among the Lannister children, Reynard never felt like an outsider, most of his cousins had always treated him with uttermost respect. Rey was always the well behaved one, never the hellraisers. Since he mostly followed rules to the letter, he gained a certain trustworthy reputation with the adult-folk, who usually took his word for the truth But not all angels are completely pure, and often did he use this well-earned trust to save the hides of his cousins when they messed things up.
As Reynard blossomed into a youth he started spending less and less time with his cousins, having to devote all of his attention to his studies. The only time that they had a chance to talk was during Sparring training with their Master at Arms, when Rey could finally divert all the stress of his studies into something else. As everything he did, Rey was a diligent sword fighter always taking notes on his mistakes and working to improve on those points. There was a lot of pressure on his back, especially from Lord Flement, for Rey to, at some point in the future, take up his father place as Lord Treasurer. At that time, his father fell extremely ill and had to return to Siverhill in order to take proper care of his health. Lady Tya was stricken with grief, for not only she'd be leaving her maiden family behind, he only son would be staying too. Lord Flement had no intention of interrupting Reynard's tutorship with, what he considered, one of the best arithmeticians in the Realm and had been able to mold his son into being a great successor for his office. The truth was, Rey was relieved that he got to stay. Not only did he not want to abandon his studies, he also had other, personal, reasons to stay.
Rey and Princess Elenya had since young been sweethearts, they had shared their first kiss and, some years later, vowed to be together forever. Len, as he fondly called her, was the sweetest, most gentle, girl he had ever seen; and for those emerald green eyes, he would have given the world. She was three years his junior, and mostly a goody two shoes like Reynard. Even when they entered that crazy age, when hormones are bubbling and numbing the brain, they promised to withhold the pleasures of the flesh for when they were married. The anticipation was tremendous, there were moments when promises were hard to keep, but they managed to control their urges, for they knew that it would be even better when the day finally came.
At the age of 19, Reynard finally decided it was time to go ask the King for his daughter's hand, the clock was ticking and if he didn't make a move Tya would soon be betrothed to another. Rey and his father had been very close to King and the Lannisters had plenty of children to marry of for alliances, so His Grace denying the union was not one of Reynards main concerns. But black news always arrive unannounced, and that very same day, Reynard's world imploded. Dark wings, dark words they say. A raven from Silverhill had arrived for him that morning and all Rey knew was turned upside down. Lord Flement had passed away a couple days ago and, when looking at their Estates ledgers, she had found out that for the last five years, her sick husband had been trying to conceal and fight off a terrible financial debt resulting from a terrible administration by his Steward during their years of absence. The crisis was so deep that had Lord Flement been a lesser treasurer, the Serrett's would probably have gone bankrupt years ago. Reynard had a difficult decision to make: he either went back to try and salvage the situation or let his family's name go to ruin. Leaving hurt him so much, but there was no way there could have been a marriage with things that way. With tears in both of their eyes and the want for a final kiss, Rey vowed in the name of his family's remaining wealth that he would come back for her as soon as the whole ordeal had been fixed.
The bloody mess was such that it took two years of sleepless lonely nights writing letters and accounting for their assets, for Rey to properly save Silverhill from debt. In those two years, Rey aged at an impressive pace, not only maturing mentally but also having the toiled take it's toll on him physically. At the end of the storm, Reynard was proud to say that his father's dream had come true, he had finally surpassed the old man in his own game. He had defeated with his bare hands the seven headed beast that had killed Lord Flement. The situation in Casterly Rock had not made his life any easier, he had kept contact with his sweetheart, and Len told him, almost monthly, about suitors that came in after her hand. Appealing to her father's sensibility, she managed to postpone the inevitable betrothal for some years, until the situation was unbearable. When things were starting to calm down in Silverhill, a mighty wind struck again: the King had finally lost his patience and betrothed his daughter to Sir xxx XXX, a son of the Lord of XXX. There was no time left for Reynard, it was time for him to return to the home of his youth. During the previous years, he had assembled a very competent team to keep track of his family's enterprises, this time there was no fear that things would go badly for the Serrett, in fact, they had never been so good.
On the back of Iridescent, his white mare, Reynard was in such haste that he managed to cross the West in half the time it usually took from Silverhill to Casterly Rock. The King had been joyous to see him, the old man was proud that the child he had often seen as one of his own, the son of his beloved sister, had managed to achieve the expectations that years ago they had all laid on Rey's back. It was also a breath of fresh air for the Monarch, all those years since his late friend had left to take care of his health, he had been having trouble choosing a Treasurer. Finally, the successor that had been promised to him had arrived and he was all of that which had been advertised. He was not so happy, though, when Reynard revealed his intentions to marry Princess Elenya. The Princess, who was present in the Hall with her betrothed, didn't hesitate to join in with Reynard's appeal. The King turned red in anger, he probably would have preferred Reynard to the XXX, but a deal had been struck and there was no way they could go back. Needless to say, the only person in the room who was even angrier than the King was Elenya's fiancee; he raged at both Elenya and Reynard, calling him a pauper, threatening Lord Serret's life with very vivid and detailed descriptions of disembowelment. So full of himself, and planning to kill Reynard, the xxxx challenged Serret for a duel: If he won, he would keep the hand of the Princess and the Serretts would have to monetarily compensate him for this humiliation, if Rey won, he could keep the Lady that he had been trying very hard not to call a whore before her father. Since this had come from the betrothed himself, the King allowed the duel to proceed.
Reynard's skill with the quill was undeniable and respected across the realm, but no one, apart from the Lannister siblings, had ever seen him fight with a sword at hand. So they probably assumed that the Lord of Silverhill had never actually held one. Rey accepted the offer, he and Elenya would be together, or he would die trying. Training Yard, dawn; real steel, drawn. As the sun came up, the rivals' swords met, letting out a loud metal clang. XXX was not only a formidable adversary, but he was also aiming to kill, while Reynard was holding back, with no intention of doing so. Luckily for Rey, his adversary had underestimated him, which gave him a large margin for maneuver and surprise. It was a long fight, Rey could feel his muscles burning, blood spilling from several wounds when he finally managed to incapacitate XXX. The Knight cursed the whole Serrett family tree for thousands of generations as he was carried out of the Yard.
With his head cooled down and having been quite entertained by the show that Reynard had put up that morning, the King finally entrusted the Lord of Siverhill with the hand of his daughter. And a not even three months later, the couple was finally wed, putting an end to years of chastity and want for each other's love. The very night of their first bedding, young Lady Ellyn, Reynard's treasure, was conceived. The nine months that followed were the best in Renayrd's life since the day he had left Casterly Rock: Silverhill thrived, their mines pumping more silver than ever; as Lord Treasurer he discovered that to be entrusted with a fortune such as the Lannister's wasn't half as hard as saving his House from ruin; and finally, the women he had devoted his whole life, carried in her womb the fruit of their love. What could go wrong?! Rey soon discovered that a lot could go wrong. As had happened two years ago, his world was turned upside down. Due to complications in childbirth, Len came to pass away, bringing with her all of Reynard's hopes and dreams. He came so close to taking his own life, and he would have done it, had it not been for little Ellyn.
A year has passed and since then, Rey has never been the same. Drowning himself in work to try and smooth the pain, only recently has he been spotted smiling around the Halls of Casterly Rock. While many fathers would leave their children to be taken care by a wet nurse, Reynard and Ellyn have become inseparable. One that comes into his office, can often see the Lord Treasurer holding the child with one arm while doing the month's numbers with his spare hand. Slowly and together, they learn to live with the unimaginable.
Personality:
A very calm and controlled man, only one subject takes him out of his level headed persona: his wife, be it her death (which makes him utterly emotional) or the affairs of her previous betrothal, which make him rather pissed off. He takes care of young Ellyn like a mother bear takes care of his cubs. Reynard is a very friendly and likable man, people tend to enjoy his company.
